Caroline Shamu, PhD
Caroline Shamu is an assistant professor of radiology at HMS, appointed both at Massachusetts General Hospital and in the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology. She has led the ICCB-Longwood Screening Facility for almost 20 years, starting as head of screening in 2000 and serving as director since 2004. She has also served as HMS scientific director for research cores and technology since 2016. In that role, she has coordinated HMS support for research core facilities and technology development and has helped establish Quad-wide working groups addressing research data management and research rigor and reproducibility. Caroline holds an AB in biochemical sciences from Harvard College, an MPhil in biochemistry from Trinity College at Cambridge University, and a PhD in cell biology from University of California San Francisco. She completed her postdoctoral work at HMS with Tom Rapoport in the Department of Cell Biology. Caroline will serve as the office’s lead for science and technology and will be the primary liaison for the coordination of HMS research cores and related technology infrastructure.
